What’s up with “Requiem for a Dream” and “Pi”??

So, I saw Requiem for a Dream in Mar/Apr, and Pi last week, and..
yeah. I was told the former was seriously profound, deep, etc.,
and it was pretty intense, but I feel like I missed something,
from this “very necessary” film. Pi being from the same director,
is also fairly acclaimed among people I know. But this one.. I
really didn’t get it. About obsession? If so, then okay, but..
aye. Any thoughts or references to reading material
would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I should journal about it?
