Got to Bangkok yesterday (the real name of which is like a paragraph long, according to my Lonely Planet (LP)). Thailand _totally_ reminds me of India! It seems a little cleaner, and the poverty is not as obvious, but otherwise.. aye! The humidity of Mumbai (Bombay).. and the rest reminds me of Bangalore (the non-American city I know best). Heck, their currency (Baht) trades w/ ours for about the same rate as the Indian rupee. Wild. We flew into the island of Phuket today, and are staying in Patong. Boy, none of these hotels are what they’re cracked up to be! For the price (relatively speaking), or the pictures on the website, they should be quite nice, if you ask me. We’re not staying at anything mentioned in LP though, so maybe we’re just getting .. not as reputed places. Eh, who knows. We’re going to see ‘James Bond Island’ tomorrow, named so because they shot a (or a part of a) film there. Then I’m off to Vietnam w/ John on Wednesday. More later, this internet place is way slower (and more expensive!) than the place I hit in Bangkok.
