Friends

First and foremost this post is to [belatedly] thank all those that gave me birthday greets (including the early and the late ones, those are in ways more memorable actually! heh..) I wanted to get my pix up before posting this, so that’s one reason it’s late, but I changed my “status” on facebook (since that’s where the most props came from), to inform all that I’m excited+happy for all the beautiful people in my life.. (a sorta stopgap that most probably missed. :)

As people who know me probably know.. I’m not the biggest, or even the first, to recognize/commemorate myself in any way. (Begin storytime) (more…)

(yet another entry written way after the fact and so pre-dated!)
Well, our story probably starts off during the 2005-2006 school year, when.. through luck of email? i decided that i needed to get in contact with the CRP (and also CCAT) webmaster. As always with my emails, there’s a lot of “unnecessary” or “extraneous” tidbits of information in there, so, in addition to what i intended to communicate, somehow, i ended up making my best email friend ever, KJ Coop! This isn’t quite a story of that, so I’ll make it brief by saying that, though KJ is way rad, we definitely don’t agree on all things (or see them the same), and since one of those points of difference is our opinion on school, I was sad to not see KJ continuing on at HSU this calendar year. Instead, now she’s up near Portland. Woa, that’s far! So, i think at some point she invited me to visit. (more…)

So it’s one of my birthday of one of my friend’s today (Agnes), so I thought that instead of being overly traditional (card/email with happy birthday song/etc..) I should do what’s appropriate for here. My birthday was a month ago (6/8, Gemini!), and I had Las Mananitas sang to me by a cool folk singer dude. This is a popular Spanish song in Mexico for people’s birthdays, so I goog’d it. First, I found a Flash version of it. Aye! I wanted the lyrics written though, so I couldn’t searching. I got confused about whether there was more than one song by this name, seeing the word cumpleanos (spanish for birthday) nowhere in the flash, I got worried. Ends up it is the right song, and I found a nice site with the Lyrics, along with a translation. Trying to keep entries smaller, so the actual song’s below..!

Aaah..

1st reminder) so, Boycott any (at least new, on the Manifesto label) Dead Kennedy’s stuff, because they took Jello to court for years to take all the rights back so they (Easy Bay Ray et al) could sell the rights to songs to Levi’s and the such.

So! Democracy Unlimited of Humboldt County had a fundraiser, a talk by Jello Biafra, former DK lead singer, now social activist and of the Alternative Tentacles (who has Wesley Wills on their label, which is what they started playing after we walked into the room. (KB Room on campus here at HSU.)) Sliding scale, $8-25, supposed to start at 6 (didn’t until after 6:45p), and I just got back a little while ago. Yeah, he can talk for a few minutes. And you thought *I* was verbose!!
:) It was interesting, for sure. I’d heard his name before, and was talking about him with some other people years ago, either something related to Nader in ‘00 or (relatedly?) him running for something around then as a Green Party candidate. However, I didn’t really know much about him before this week, and there was a small piece about him in the campus paper, the Lumberjack, and a mention (possibly an article I didn’t see?) in the North Coast Journal (.com): “At the Kate Buchanan Room Saturday get an earful from former Dead Kennedy vocalist Jello Biafra, who has become something like a punk rock Noam Chomsky, offering his considered opinions on current events in provocative, scintillating rants.

ANYWHO! To the protein (carbs?) of the story! (You might need to hit the link for more below this)
